The Cryptocurrency industry has been under the spotlight for the significant fluctuation in the market trends. A sector that is industrially dynamic, the Altcoin market has a major role to play. Despite Bitcoin and Ether trading near their yearly highs, altcoin investors have faced significant challenges.
Bitcoin, the world’s number one cryptocurrency, and its close following peer, Ether, have both been experiencing a price surge in the investment universe recently. Notwithstanding this fact, altcoin, the term used for cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin, have not had similar luck. Investors in this alternate digital currency are struggling due to different reasons, proving an unfortunate contrast to the success stories of Bitcoin and Ether.
Market capitalization, influential institutions, and public sentiment are factors that drive the price of digital currencies. Bitcoin being the pioneer of cryptocurrencies, holds the majority of the market share. Similarly, Ether, with the rising popularity of decentralized finance (DeFi), is gaining attention from the digital currency investors globally. These two behemoths have built a solid foundation over the years, making it challenging for altcoins to surpass them.
On the other hand, altcoins, despite their potential, continue to have an uphill battle due to lesser-known brand names, coupled with lower market penetration compared to Bitcoin and Ether. Although there are success stories like Binance Coin or Cardano, many fail to reach the same levels of mainstream success. To survive and thrive, altcoin players may need to innovate continuously and differentiate themselves to break through the stronghold of Bitcoin and Ether in the crypto-market.
